What Is Bonsai?

You have definitely heard of bonsai somewhere in your life. But do you know what it actually is? If I give you a simple definition of what a bonsai is, it’s basically a plant that resides in a pot. But please don’t be mistaken to take it as just a house plant. It’s so much more than that. To be more accurate, bonsai plants are a form of art, plant art and some consider them as sculptures.

To grow a bonsai plant, you need to have the skills to take care of it. If you want your bonsai to survive, you need to make sure it’s getting the skilled care it needs. If the plant gets the care it needs, then it blossoms into a spectacular specimen.

Many online home & garden shops and shops in general sell bonsais. And they’re not that much expensive compared to other trees & plants. With skilled care, these plants eventually turn into a bonsai. Do not be confused about this transformation. In simple words, we call them “Mall Bonsai” on the internet. They are not bonsai at their first phase of life, but can become one if they get great skilled care. So, To those who are new to bonsai plants, I will suggest them to not buy the plant from shops that doesn’t provide a clear instruction on how you can take care of your bonsai or at least the basic information you need to make sure you bonsai survives.

Even though bonsais are not mainly house plants, but they can make your house much more beautiful. There are some “Indoor Bonsai Plants” which can be kept inside the house for decorations. But their number is limited and you will have to take them outside for sometime in the summer.

There are some misconceptions about bonsais that the little ones can grow into big bonsai plants. This is not true. Bonsai Plants grow very slowly and they need to be grown under conditions created with skilled care. This goes on until the bonsais have grown to your desired size and thickness. Once it happens, they are usually put twopots. After they are transferred to pots, the second phase of their lives start where they grow very slowly and gradually as the objective of the pot is to slow down the bonsai’s growing process.
